ALFA ROMEO LOGO DESCRIPTION

Each item included in the Alfa Romeo logo has a historical significance.

Alfa Originally represented A.L.F.A., or Anonima Lombardia Fabbrica Automobili, which was founded in 1910.

In 1915, Nicola Romeo took control over A.L.F.A., and added his name to the company logo.  He also added the location of his factory in Milan Italy.

In 1925, the Laurel Border was added, celebrating Alfa Romeo's first world championship.

The left center of the badge is a red cross on white background that recalls the heroic deeds of the Milanese Giovanni da Rho during the First Crusades of the 11th century. In the battles to recover the Holy Land for Christianity, he was the first to place the Cross on the walls of Jerusalem.

The right half of the Alfa Romeo Logo is the crest of Ottone Visconti, founder of the noble Visconti family of Milan.

He is credited with killing an infidel during the First Crusade, whose shield was inscribed with the image of a snake devouring a man. Ottone used this emblem in his family crest that was later adopted by the city of Milan onto its coat of arms. It is a symbol of power and success of Milan’s enemies being devoured by the snake.
